Critical to our quality control program and our research and development efforts, is the ability to test how our grains perform when used in an application. We operate a test wire saw in order to test the abrasive efficiency of our micro grits and how they behave in the wire saw. The ability to test the micro grits right in our own laboratory environment gives us greater opportunity and flexibility to collaborate with our customers on particular problem solving or product development efforts.
The joint research work we have done with customers has resulted in specific product improvements and process modifications that have benefited our customers' performance. Collaborative research and development is an on-going program at Washington Mills AS that strives for continual product improvement and helps to improve our customers' products and technologies. Washington Mills AS makes research and development a priority for customers interested in improving their understanding of silicon carbide in order to improve their processes and make their products better.
